Hidden Figures

curvy, plus size, full figured, natural hair, plaid skirt, knit tee, cardigan, kitten heels
Recently, the movie Hidden Figures, was released following the biographies and contributions of three African-American women.  Katherine Goble Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughan were pioneers that contributed to the successful launch and orbit into space of astronaut, John Glenn.  I was totally in awe and inspired after viewing this movie with my sister.

While all of the characters were notably impressive, the one I found most profound was the character of Katherine Johnson.  Johnson, casted by Taraji P. Henson, was a major key in the successful launching of astronauts into space.  I feel as though Johnson had to overcome many obstacles in proving herself to her colleagues and to the world.  Being not only a woman, but one who was "colored", she had to not only work smarter but harder than her male counterparts.  Pouring herself into her profession, spending countless hours at work, being a single mom to three daughters.  I was just in awe.

I'll have to say one of my favorite parts was when Johnson finally had the courage and grew a backbone to stand up for herself.  Running back and forth across that campus in heels was ticking me off for her...lol.  I truly admired her for that part.  There is no way I would want to do all that just to use a bathroom.  Thank God for change.

This movie has inspired me to never give up on my dreams.  When things look bleak, and dark, and unclear to keep pressing forward.  Eventually with hard work and dedication, I'll no longer feel hidden and overlooked among the interwebs...lol.  This outfit that I'm wearing was inspired by the character's style of dress in the movie.  I've had these pieces in my closet for a while now.  I wore this outfit to church and later had dinner with my mom pictured below.  She has been a huge inspiration in my life as well.  Her dedication to raising 5 children on her own is a mighty feat in itself.  She has done an awesome job and I want to honor her for that.

Thank you guys who rock with me even when I'm absent for a while.  I'm just a little ol' southern gal with a big ol' heart for fashion and writing.  Thanks for the consistent encouragement to those of you who leave me kind comments across all my social media plugs.  You can also follow me on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and I 've finally succumbed to Snapchat (mskishina is my username).  Not sure how to work that app yet...lol.

Until next time,

Stay beautiful and be true to YOU!
