How NOT To Wear an Abstract Print Blazer and Denim

So, I'm shopping my closet this past weekend and what do ya know, I have loads of blazers...lol.  I guess I have a love for them because they can dress up the most simple outfits.  I plan to showcase ALL of the blazers I own in my next few posts.  Sort of an installment series, if you will.  I found this particular abstract print blazer at Goodwill.  The material has a good amount of stretch.  There's nothing like a good structured blazer to pull a look together. Unfortunately, this blazer is not a great representation of structure on my body.

Some people debate the fact that wearing a blazer is NOT a way to dress up a pair of denim, but I beg to differ.  I feel as long as it's done tastefully, you can pull it off.  And then there's the side of me that says, screw what others think.  Fashion is fashion and style is what you do with it.  If it doesn't suit your fancy, then don't wear it.

Jeans ~ Goodwill $7
I chose to pair this printed blazer with a white lace-trimmed cami from Lane Bryant and a pair of denim jeans.  They are a darker wash, fitted through the hip and thigh and slightly flared at the bottom.  I love that these jeans have good stretch, however, I'm still on the prowl for that uber perfect pair that hugs my wide hips and don't gape at the back due to the huge booty...thanks to my grandmothers...on both sides of the fam...double dose here...lol.
Fringe bag ~ (old) Cato Fashions
And yaaaas honey!! I am still sporting this darn fringe bag.  I love it...sorry, not sorry...lol.  It's so cute and funky.  Don't you think so?  While I love this blazer, after taking blog pics, I don't think it translated well on my body.  It's a bit boxy on me and doesn't really do much for my short frame.  Oh well, I will try again.  That's the beauty of blogging, you learn and grow from experience.  And I for one am not ashamed to say when things fail, and this was an epic fail...lol.

I feel when things don't turn out the way I planned helps me develop and blossom into a blogger who will  eventually nail it (most of the time).  Because let's be real, everyone has their off days, even seasoned bloggers.  Trust me, I've seen it with my own eyes, and this my friends just happens to be one of mine.  I'm okay with critiquing my own look and coming to the conclusion to tell myself, "uh-uh honey, try again"...lol.  This blazer will probably be going back to Goodwill.  Another lesson learned, don't buy things just because they're a steal.  If you don't love how it fits your body when you purchased it, chances are you're never gonna wear it.  Which translates to money wasted...ugh!! I need my coins!

Check out how some other bloggers are wearing their blazers and jeans below.  Most have styled them with boyfriend jeans.  I'm feeling their vibe. It's inspired me for a future post.

  1. I agree it's happened to the best of us and my fails definitely helped me grow as a blogger. I also had to learn to stop buying things just because they were on sale or cheap. I'm learning now just to only buy things I love and it helps me shop my closet more. I do love the print on that blazer maybe if you wore it unbottoned? and I do beg to differ...........I love a blazer and jeans combo!!! I still love this look!!!

    1. Venissia, bingo!! You hit the nail in the head. That's exactly what I told myself. From now on I will only buy items that I absolutely love on my body. Then I will be more apt to wear everything hanging in my closet...lol.

    1. Lauren, you're feeling my pain then aren't you? Thrifting can be both a blessing and a curse. Ugh! I'm living and learning though. That's what life is all about.

  3. I definitely think that a blazer is a great way to dress up a pair of jeans. And I agree, fashion is what you make it. If people like what you wear great, but if not OH WELL!!! And that print blazer was a great find at only $7!!

  4. I think you look really cute in this outfit - I really do! But I know how sometimes an outfit just doesn't come together. I love the blazer. Maybe try it one more time before you donate it. I think it looks great on you!

  6. New to your blog here!
I actually really love this blazer - with a print like that, it would be hard to let it go. I'm with the first commenter though - did you try wearing it unbuttoned? Maybe that would help with the boxy-ness of the shape? Just a thought.
Sale items are totally my kryptonite, so I understand the desire to pick something up when it's on super-sale - and thrifting is almost worse because it's like - there's only one of these, no one else will be wearing it! But yes - loving the way something looks on your body is super-important, because it will help your confidence shine through.
I'm in on the jeans with a blazer combo too!

  7. Love your blazer, the colors and pattern are different from the traditional black blazer. I also love that fringe purse! I really like the leopard print blazer, too that the one blogger is wearing.

  9. I do love the look of a blazer with jeans, it is just so chic! I can't wear jeans to work and wearing a blazer on the weekend to go shopping at Costco just seems too fancy so I don't wear my blazers on the weekend much. I agree that fashion is about experimenting with different cuts, prints and colors. I think this looks great on you but if you don't love it, it's time to say goodbye to it.

    1. Thanks so much, Alice! I can only wear jeans on casual Fridays, and that only occasionally. Blazers are a tad dressy for my office environment though sometimes I just like to feel fancy and I will wear one anyways. Thanks for stopping by :)
